Pest control means keeping harmful insects and rodents out of your home and workplace — in Urdu, keeron aur mozi jaanwaron ka khaatma, the removal and prevention of pests like termites, bed bugs, mosquitoes, cockroaches and rats. Most Karachi families do not describe their problem in English. You tell us "ghar mein deemak lag gayi hai" or "khatmal ne so nahi diya" or "machar bohat ziyada hain", and that is exactly right. This page is a plain bilingual glossary that maps the Urdu and Roman-Urdu pest names you actually use to the English term, the scientific species, and how we at Nest Fumigation Services treat each one. Search in your own words; find the right treatment.

Why We Built This Page

When people search for help with a pest, they type the word they grew up with. A grandmother in North Nazimabad calls a termite deemak; a hostel resident near University Road complains about khatmal; a shopkeeper in Saddar wants the lal beg gone from behind the counter. None of them are wrong — those are the correct Urdu names. The problem is that most pest-control websites only publish the English words, so the search and the service never meet.

We made this glossary to close that gap. For each pest below you get the Urdu name (in script and in Roman-Urdu), the English name, the scientific species we are actually dealing with, a one-line note on how we treat it, and a link to the full service. Nothing here is alarmist — bed bugs and cockroaches are common, treatable, and nothing to be embarrassed about. Let's name the problem and solve it.

The Big Five for Karachi Homes

Five pests drive most of our residential calls. Here is a little more on each, in the words you would actually use.

Deemak — Termite (Coptotermes heimi)

Deemak is the pest that quietly eats your door frames, skirting, wardrobes and roof beams from the inside. By the time you see the mud tubes on a wall or the hollow-sounding wood, the colony has been working for a while. We treat deemak with a standard fipronil soil barrier around and under the structure, plus proofing, so the colony is cut off from the building. Full method and warranty on our termite control page.

Khatmal — Bed Bug (Cimex hemipterus)

Khatmal are the tiny apple-seed-shaped insects that bite you at night and leave a line of welts, common in shared hostels, guest rooms and after travel. They are nothing to be ashamed of — they hitchhike in on luggage and used furniture. We clear them with heat treatment (50°C and above kills every stage including eggs) or a non-repellent chemical protocol with a growth regulator and a day-14 revisit. See bed bug treatment.

Machar — Mosquito (Aedes aegypti and others)

Machar are more than a nuisance in Karachi — Aedes aegypti carries dengue, Anopheles carries malaria, Culex is the whining night-biter. Killing the adults with fogging alone is temporary; the lasting fix pairs fogging with larviciding on the standing water that breeds them. Full programme on our mosquito control page, and if you are choosing between methods, our fogging vs larviciding guide.

Lal Beg — Cockroach (Blattella germanica / Periplaneta americana)

Lal beg — the small German cockroach in kitchens and the large American cockroach from the drains. They spread fast and contaminate food surfaces. We use a Fipronil gel bait that the roaches carry back to the harborage, plus treatment of the cracks and voids where they hide, rather than just spraying what you can see. See cockroach control.

Chuha aur Choohiya. Rat and Mouse (Rattus rattus / Mus musculus)

Chuha is the roof rat that gnaws wiring and raids the kitchen; choohiya is the smaller house mouse. Poison alone is never the whole answer — a dead rat in a wall void is its own problem. We combine baiting and trapping with sealing the entry points so new rodents cannot get back in. See rodent control.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the meaning of pest control in Urdu?+

Pest control in Urdu is keeron aur mozi jaanwaron ka khaatma — the removal, treatment and prevention of harmful pests such as deemak (termites), khatmal (bed bugs), machar (mosquitoes), lal beg (cockroaches) and chuha (rats). In practice it means inspecting a property, treating the active infestation with the right method, and sealing or proofing so it does not return.

What is deemak called in English?+

Deemak (دیمک) is the termite. In Karachi the common structural species is Coptotermes heimi, a subterranean termite that attacks wood from the inside. It is treated with a soil-barrier insecticide and proofing — see our termite control page.

What is khatmal in English?+

Khatmal (کھٹمل) means bed bug — the small, flat, night-biting insect Cimex hemipterus (and Cimex lectularius). They are common and treatable with heat or a chemical-plus-growth-regulator protocol. Details on our bed bug treatment page.

What is lal beg in English?+

Lal beg (لال بیگ) is the cockroach — usually the small German cockroach (Blattella germanica) in kitchens or the large American cockroach (Periplaneta americana) coming up from drains. We treat both with gel bait and harborage treatment. See cockroach control.

Do you serve customers who only speak Urdu?+

Yes. Our team speaks Urdu, and you are welcome to describe your problem in Urdu or Roman-Urdu on the phone or WhatsApp. Just tell us what you are seeing — "deemak lag gayi", "khatmal hain", "machar bohat hain", and we will identify the pest and recommend the treatment.
