On-site steam cleaning

Our portable steamer delivers dry steam at 90-100°C at the nozzle, which sanitises the fabric, kills dust-mites (which die at sustained temperatures above 60°C), and loosens surface soil without saturating the fabric. We follow the steam with a HEPA-vacuum pass to capture the loosened particulate before it redeposits. Off-site wash for heavy drapes and delicate sheers
For the deepest clean we take the curtains down, transport them to our facility, and wash under controlled conditions matched to the fabric. Heavy lined drapes go through a low-agitation commercial wash with mild alkaline detergent at pH 8-9 and water at 30-40°C, followed by a pH 5.5-6 acidic rinse for fibre brightening and residue removal. Delicate sheers and silk-blend curtains go through hand-washing in a flat tub with non-ionic surfactant at pH 7, with no agitation beyond gentle cloth movement to prevent fibre damage. Drying is on flat racks under fan circulation, never tumble-dried, to preserve drape and length. Total turnaround is typically 3-5 days for standard drapes, 5-7 days for silk and embroidered pieces.
Ultrasonic and brush cleaning for blinds
Blinds are not curtains. Wooden venetians, faux-wood, aluminium horizontal blinds, and vertical office blinds all have different cleaning protocols. For dense slat accumulation we use ultrasonic cleaning — submersion in a tank that generates high-frequency sound waves to dislodge soil from every surface simultaneously, including the underside of each slat that hand-cleaning cannot easily reach. For wooden venetians we use a damp-cloth method with a pH-neutral cleaner, never submersion, because water swelling will permanently warp wood. Vertical office blinds usually clean in place with steam and a wide brush attachment. Motorised and Roman blinds get a careful disassembly-and-reassembly protocol that we time conservatively, because the mechanism complexity varies by manufacturer.

Detergent selection
Our curtain wash uses amphoteric surfactants — cocamidopropyl betaine — as the primary surfactant, with non-ionic cocamide DEA for the lipid fraction. For sheer and silk we drop to fully non-ionic to avoid any residual charge that attracts re-soiling. Alkaline boost from sodium carbonate at pH 8-9 for heavy drapes; strict pH 7 neutral for delicates. Off-site curtains dry on flat racks under fan circulation, with careful tension management to preserve drape and length. Silk and embroidered pieces dry shaded to prevent UV colour shift. Lined drapes get an interlining check — if the inner lining shrank differently from the face fabric, we adjust before pressing. Pressing on a low-heat setting for fabric type, with seam alignment and crease restoration. Re-hanging uses the original hardware in the documented configuration, with full-length drape adjustment so the curtain breaks correctly at the floor. Karachi-specific stains and soils
The most common deep soil on a Karachi drawing-room curtain is agarbatti and candle soot near the prayer area, cooking aerosol near the kitchen window, and cigarette smoke condensate where guests have smoked nearby. Each responds best to alkaline pre-spray with a solvent component for the lipid fraction. Paan splatter on a curtain — yes, this happens — is acidic and tannin-heavy, treated with an alkaline tannin remover. Mehndi splash from wedding preparation is plant-dye chemically bonded by the time we see it; significant lightening is possible, full removal usually not.
